Spinal Decompression at
Waccamaw Chiropractic & Wellness Center
What Is Spinal Decompression?
Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a type of motorized traction that may help relieve back pain. Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine, changing it’s position and therefore, taking pressure off of the spinal disks. The disks act as a cushion between the bones in your spine. As a result of decompression, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.
Our doctors use nonsurgical spinal decompression in order to help with:
- Pain and sciatica in cases where numbness and tingling extend down the legs<
- Bulging or herniated disks or degenerative disk disease
- Worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
- Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots
